Selfie Mohamed Salah is having his best season with Liverpool FC in 2024-2025. From leading The Reds to the Premier League title, topping the English league’s goal-scoring charts for now, and securing a contract extension until 2027.

In addition to these achievements, there is also the iconic celebration performed by the player known as The Egyptian King. It was when he scored a goal against Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday (27/4) at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool.

The match ended with a 5-1 score for Liverpool. Salah scored the fourth goal for the 20-time English league champions.

After scoring the goal, Salah celebrated by taking a selfie with the fans at Anfield. As reported by The Athletic, Salah used a device belonging to one of Liverpool’s staff members who was behind the Tottenham goal at the time.

The device Salah used for the selfie also gained popularity. Google Pixel, as a sponsor of Liverpool, saw its popularity soar.

“Salah’s celebration is genius. From a social analysis perspective, he created a trend that will become a hype in the future. From an economic perspective, Salah boosted the brand of the device he used,” praised Ross Hardie, founder and CEO of Player One Sports & Entertainment.

As reported by The Athletic, it turns out that Salah’s selfie style is not the only one ever done by footballers. Here is a list of other players who have taken selfies with fans.

1.Francesco Totti

On his 40th derby, AS Roma captain Francesco Totti celebrated his goal by taking a selfies in front of the fans. In that match, Totti scored a brace as Roma drew 2-2 against SS Lazio (11/1/2015).

“I am not used to taking selfies because I want to keep my privacy,” Totti explained, as quoted by DAZN. “However, this is a unique and unrepeated moment because my goal surpassed important players in the history of the derby. It is a moment that everyone will remember,” Totti said.

2.Wojciech Szczesny

After winning the North London Derby with Arsenal in the 2013-2014 season, Szczesny took a selfie in front of the Arsenal fans. The Polish goalkeeper was accompanied by Kieran Gibbs and Lukas Podolski during the selfie.

The 1-0 victory by Arsenal over Tottenham Hotspur felt special. This was because the win was achieved at Tottenham’s home ground, White Hart Lane, London (16/3/2014).

“I asked Paul Johnson [Arsenal’s kit manager, Red] to bring my phone to the field after the match and take a selfie with the Arsenal fans, which was amazing,” Szczesny said. “It was fantastic for us and we wanted to give something back to them,” Szczesny continued, as quoted by Sky Sport.

3.Mario Balotelli

Balotelli opened the victory for Olympique Marseille when they defeated Saint Etienne 2-0 (3/3/2019). The Italian striker invited his teammates to be part of his selfie pose and uploaded it to his social media account.

Balotelli indeed appeared emotional after scoring that goal. His volley helped Marseille finish fifth in the final standings.

4.Lukas Podolski

After winning the 2014 World Cup, striker Lukas Podolski created an iconic selfie. He did not invite fans to take the selfie. Instead, he invited the famous German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

As quoted by Sky Sport, Podolski invited Merkel to take a selfie with the famous golden World Cup trophy. The selfies between Podolski and Merkel was taken in the German locker room.

5.James Rodriguez

Colombia was indeed not the winner of the 2014 World Cup. Colombia only reached the quarter-finals.

However, their playmaker James Rodriguez emerged as the top scorer. And for this achievement, James received an extraordinary welcome when he returned to Colombia.

At the stage of the Colombian national team’s welcome, James took a selfies with thousands of Colombian supporters cheering for him.
